In late 2023, I got the chance to design my own personal business card. I opted to design something that would be reflective of my tastes.
I have always been very fond of gradients (both white-to-black and rainbow). I was exposed to them via collecting trading cards (from Yu-Gi-Oh!, Pokemon, and Magic the Gathering) growing up. Gradients have a certain sublime charm in contrast to individual, compartmentalized colors. To describe the best I can, it would be infinite yet finite and finite yet infinite.
Meanwhile, the graphics (my initials) on my final design are influenced by the yin-yang symbol. The yin-yang symbol’s connotations of interconnectedness go hand-in-hand with opposites that are interconnected with each other. Just as how white is the sum of all colors, black is the absence of all colors. (Of course, things would be different with regards to how light works in physics. Technically, black and white are shades, but yet we treat and use them like colors too).
Finally, the addition of holographic foil (providing the rest of the colors) gave my design the panache to complete my intended creative concept. It really made those business cards shine (pun intended) when the time came to take photos.
